Is Coffee the New Cocoa?
Coffee and cocoa markets have similarities. Both are grown in limited geographic areas mostly in the tropics. Both futures markets have limited liquidity, so price swings can be exaggerated. All cocoa supply used in the United States and most of the coffee supply is imported, with 30% of the US coffee supply coming from Brazil. The Bureau of Labor Statistics said August coffee prices were up 21% from a year ago. Read more here.
